About this Activity
"a ha!" Moments have been designed to inspire students to cultivate what we call an Amazing Hospitality Attitude. They are short motivational videos that further enhances each soft skill allowing them to see the difference they can make by implementing what they have learned in this course. They are a favorite with our AHA World Campus students.
Fish and Monkey
The Lesson

The Fish and the Monkey parable reminds us that everyone brings different strengths to the table. In the workplace, judging people by standards that don’t fit their skills—like expecting a fish to climb a tree—creates frustration and discouragement. A fish thrives in the water just as some individuals excel in creativity, analysis, leadership, or teamwork.

True diversity management means valuing those unique strengths rather than forcing everyone into the same mold. When leaders recognize and leverage differences, teams become more balanced, innovative, and motivated. Employees who feel seen for their contributions are more engaged, and collaboration improves.

In the end, it’s not about asking everyone to climb the same tree—it’s about giving each person the chance to contribute where they do best.

When have you felt like the fish—judged by a standard that didn’t match your real strengths? How did it affect your confidence and performance?

How can recognizing and appreciating differences in others make life more meaningful and connected?

What unique strengths or talents do you bring to your family, school, or community? How do those make you valuable in your own way?
