About this Activity
The Skill Builder Self Assessment Activities come next. Knowing oneself is the best bit of advice we can give students to help them find a career they are passionate about and makes them happy. A satisfying career engages their heart as well as their mind. Through a series of personal assessments, students will learn about their likes and dislikes, their values, their interests, what they do well so much more. Some of the Skill Builder responses will help populate their Go Plan found in Part three. Teachers have the flexibility to add additional skill builder activities should they want to enhance the module topic.
Solving Problems through Communication
In the hospitality and tourism industry effective communication allows us to build good working relationships with our fellow workers, and with our customers. It also helps develop loyalty to the company. Communication is complex . If not done properly, it can cause misunderstanding and problems. When we communicate using different channels, the possibility of misunderstandings and problems are likely to occur, preventing us from communicating effectively.

For example: Situation: When two workers talk face to face and argue on the best way to do their job Possible problem: Language problem

Situations:
Face to Face Communication: A supervisor gives instructions directly to his employee.

Telephone Communication: An employee is answering a question from a guest over the telephone.

Electronic Communication: The supervisor sends a memo to all his staff by email announcing a new company policy.

Written Communication: The company president sends out a written memo to all employees about company expansion.
