About this Activity
The Skill Builder Self Assessment Activities come next. Knowing oneself is the best bit of advice we can give students to help them find a career they are passionate about and makes them happy. A satisfying career engages their heart as well as their mind. Through a series of personal assessments, students will learn about their likes and dislikes, their values, their interests, what they do well so much more. Some of the Skill Builder responses will help populate their Go Plan found in Part three. Teachers have the flexibility to add additional skill builder activities should they want to enhance the module topic.
What do I Value?
Begin this Skill Builder by watching the Good to the Core video below. Once you're done, come back and consider the following questions: Do you know what's really important to you? Can you explain why? Each of us has our own set of values that helps determine our way of life. Your values are your personal inventory of what you consider most important in life. We all have values, but unless we take the time to think about those values, we can easily overlook them when we're making important life choices. Here are some guidelines for identifying what you value.

  • Is this something that's important to you?
  • Do you feel good about this being important to you?
  • Would you feel good if people you respect knew that this was important to you?
  • Have you ever done anything that indicates that this is important to you?
  • Is this something you would stand by even if others made fun of you?
  • Does this fit in with your vision of who you are?

Knowing what is important to you will not only make you a happier person but also a happier employee one day. Your level of work happiness and satisfaction increases when you are in a place where what you are doing (your interests) and what you consider important (your values) are well matched.

What do you value most in life? There are 20 personal values listed below. Using the guidelines above, place a check mark in the column across from each value that best represents you.
